BACKGROUND:
The City of Cocoa entered into a partnership with Cocoa High School to hold paid internships for Cocoa High students participating in their Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs to earn high school credits through work experience. The CTE internship program benefits the students by allowing them to get a jumpstart on their career and gain valuable workplace experience while they earn elective high school credit. Each student works a minimum of 150 hours internship hours per program credit.
Two students were hired in our Utilities Department and worked throughout the 2023-2024 school year in the Water Field Operations Division. These students will now graduate with a Certificate in Building Construction Technologies. One intern is planning on applying for a full-time position with the City of Cocoa.
