BACKGROUND:
The City of Cocoa’s Purchasing Department, on behalf of the Public Works Stormwater Division, solicited procurement of services to be provided from qualified firms for the installation of floating treatment wetlands (FTW) at the North and South Lakemont Stormwater Ponds.
FTWs are a useful tool used to increase water quality of ponds and lakes. FTWs absorb excess nutrients in the water which is one of the main contributors to aquatic weed growth in ponds. Installation of FTWs at the North and South Lakemont Ponds should help to decrease the introduction of Total Nitrogen and Phosphorus to the Indian River Lagoon. Adding FTWs to a pond can also increase the biodiversity by providing additional wildlife refuge.
The sole bid received for this solicitation was from Beemats, LLC, with a proposed one-time fabrication / installation of wetlands, triannual maintenance, and annual lab analysis. The term of said agreement shall be for a period of five (5) years with two (2) option year renewals. The initial year includes the fabrication / installation of two FTW’s for North and South Lakemont Ponds, with years two - five consisting of triannual maintenance and annual lab analysis only.
Staff will be submitting an application to Save Our Indian River Lagoon for grant funding related to this project in October 2021.
