BACKGROUND:

 

The Pineda Water Main Railroad Crossing project consists of the trenchless installation of a 16-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water main and accompanying casing pipe. The new water main will convey water under the railroad crossing at the Pineda Causeway, completing a loop between two existing dead-end water mains on each side of the railroad crossing.

 

The Pineda Water Main Railroad Crossing project is effectively a subsequent phase of the original Pineda Water Main Extension project which was substantially completed on September 7, 2023. During the original project, the railroad crossing was unable to be accomplished due to unforeseen utility conflicts within the railroad corridor. In order to prevent interruption to the schedule of the original project, which was a joint project with the City of Melbourne, the railroad crossing segment was removed from the scope of the original project.

 

The scope of work requested under Task Order 2024-01 will allow CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA), under RFQ Q-23-12-COC, to perform engineering services for the Pineda Water Main Railroad Crossing project, generally consisting of design, permitting, bidding and procurement services.

 

Staff recommends approval of this agenda item in order to complete the water main extension project.
