Requested Action:
title
Approval of the requested street closure outside the CBD for the Moore Center Centennial Celebration on December 2, 2023.End
body
BACKGROUND:
Per the special events ordinance, all street closure requests must be approved by City Council. This request is outside of the Central Business District and therefore does not count towards the allotted 24 street closures permitted per year in that area.
Moore Center Centennial Celebration, Saturday, December 2, 2023, 4:30-8:30pm.
Blake Ave: between Stone Street and Bernard Street
Total Closure - Half Day
The Moore Center Centennial Celebration will begin at Emma Jewel Charter Academy where attendees will watch a short video about the Moore building and then can either walk or take a golf cart to the Moore Building. Emma Jewel Charter Academy has ample parking available and a bigger room with equipment to show the showcase video. The remainder of the event will take place at the Moore Building. Closing traffic on this stretch of the roadway will allow us to shuttle attendees better and ensure a safe trip from Emma Jewel to the Moore Building.
We will notify homeowners along this stretch of roadway about the closure and will place signs in the area two weeks prior to the closure.
STRATEGIC PLAN CONNECTION:
The Approval of the road closures will help to enhance the image of Cocoa as an inviting destination for visitors as well as re-enforce a sense of community and increased event participation for its citizens.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
none
PREVIOUS ACTION:
All other 2023 Road Closure requests were approved last year on December 13, 2022 by Cocoa City Council.
