body
BACKGROUND:
On October 16, 2024 the Department received notification that we were awarded the opportunity to apply for the FY2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice (JAG) Grant in the amount of $15,653 with two due dates, one being October 16 in Grants.gov and October 22 at 8:59p.m. on the JustGrants websites. Access to these two portals is limited, and only the Grants Writer has access to both to be able to apply before these deadlines.
This grant is a two-year grant, awards of less than $25,000, but can be extended for a period of up to two years. The Police Department intends to use the funds to address violent crime by recruiting officers for a long-term solution and for overtime details in "hot spots" for a short-term solution.
The Police Department requests public comment and City Council's consideration, while also requesting authorization for the Grants Writer to submit on the City's behalf. Funds will not be awarded until later in FY2025 and at that time, the Department will present to City Council the award and accept the revenue.
