BACKGROUND:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has done studies throughout the State of Florida and has determined that our area is one of twenty-five (25) priority counties handling traffic crashes resulting in serious or fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists. In identifying this trend, FDOT has allocated a minimum of $5,000 in overtime reimbursement to the Cocoa Police Department to help address Florida’s High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) for Pedestrian and Bicycle safety program.
The Police Department is requesting approval to apply for these funds and give the City Manager approval to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Police Technology and Management. A budget amendment will be brought to Council upon approval of the grant award.
