BACKGROUND:

The City of Cocoa Fire Rescue provides an Emergency Medical Service System which employs Paramedics to perform advanced life support (ALS) and Emergency Medical Technicians to perform basic life support (BLS). Florida Statues ? 401.265 requires that each "basic life support technician service or advanced life support service must employ or contract with a medical director". The aforementioned Statue and Chapters 64J-1 and 64J-2 of the Florida Administrative Code set out certain criteria for said Medical Director, and City is required to employ or contract with a medical director who shall be a Licensed physician; a corporation, association, or partnership composed of physicians; or physicians employed by any hospital which delivers in-hospital emergency medical services and which employs or contracts with physicians specifically for that purpose. The City of Cocoa desires to contract with Provider and retain a licensed physician to serve as Medical Director in accordance with the requirements set forth in Florida Statutes ? 401.265 and Florida Administrative Code Chapters 64J-1 AND 64J-2. The amount requested is a total of $74,169.37 for the three-year contract. Costs for FY 25 will be included in the adopted budget. Costs include a contract cost each year plus a proportionate share of insurances for the medical director. The breakdown is as follows: Year 1: $20,689.79, Year 2: $24,989.79, and Year 3: $28,489.79, amounting to a total of $74,169.37 as shown below.
