BACKGROUND:
The City of Cocoa Employee Sick Leave Bank was approved by City Council at the regular meeting on September 28, 1993. The Sick Leave Bank is a benefit funded by sick leave hour contributions from employees of the City of Cocoa. It affords temporary, continued income to members of the bank who have exhausted all paid leaves and are experiencing a serious health condition which is not job-related and requires and extended leave of absence from work. Membership in the Sick Leave bank has declined to 65 participants. The City presently offers voluntary Short-Term Disability, voluntary supplemental insurance with Aflac, and an employee sick leave donation program. On August 8, 2022 the remaining members of the Employee Sick Leave Bank Board voted unanimously to dissolve the employee sick leave bank in consideration of other employee benefit options. There are 65 Active Employees who have donated hours to the bank. There are 479.37 hours that will be divided equally and allocated to individual member sick leave account balances.
