BACKGROUND:

The City of Cocoa currently has several vacancies on various boards and committees. This agenda item provides an overview of these vacancies, eligibility criteria and the application process for interested residents.

Current vacancies:

Board of Adjustment
* 2 Alternate member vacancies

Code Enforcement Board
* 1 Alternate member vacancy

Fire Pension Board
* 2 Regular member vacancies

General Pension Board
* 1 Regular member vacancy

Housing Authority
* 1 Regular member vacancy

Planning and Zoning
* 1 Regular member vacancy
* 1 Alternate member vacancy

Police Pension Board
* 2 Regular member vacancies

Eligibility Criteria:
* Must be a resident or owner of real property within the City limits of Cocoa.
* Must consent to a criminal background check.
* Be duly registered to vote in Brevard County.
* Must meet any other specific qualifications outlined in the board/committee's bylaws.
* Code Board: Additionally, appointments shall be made in accordance with applicable law and ordinances on the basis of experience or interest in the subject matter jurisdiction of the respective code enforcement board, in the sole discretion of the local governing body. The membership of each enforcement board shall, whenever possible, include an architect, a businessperson, an engineer, a general contractor, a subcontractor, and a realtor. ? 162.05, Fla. Stat.
