body

BACKGROUND:

City staff recently met with representatives from CareerSource Brevard to discuss a program for which the City is eligible.  CareerSource Brevard has received federal funding from the Department of Labor through the end of the fiscal year (September 30th 2020) to provide employment to those who are unemployed and hopefully transition them to full-time employment.  While the current funding is for this year, future funding will be allocated based on natural disaster occurrence and excess fund availability.  The current grant funds are what remains of funding allocated for disaster response that has went unspent elsewhere.  Should the Agreement be approved, the City will be eligible to submit on a project basis for assistance related to damage as a result of recent natural disasters.  Once the City’s scope of work is approved, CareerSource Brevard will assign laborers and facilitate the rental of equipment to complete the work.  A number of Brevard County local governments already participate and have benefitted from the assistance provided through the Agreement.  The proposed Agreement expires on December 31st 2027.
