body

BACKGROUND:

Firehouse Subs Grant program provides emergency service agencies funding for life safety equipment. Cocoa Fire Rescue Department is currently in the process of trying to replace outdated hydraulic rescue tools to meet the needs of performing vehicle extrication on vehicles that have stronger, heavier duty materials that the existing tools cannot penetrate. The Department has replaced one set in this budget year and will still need to replace two other sets that are on front line apparatus.

If awarded, this grant it will allow the Department to obtain a second set of tools this fiscal year. An additional set will be requested in the 2021 budget to replace the third set. The amount requested through the Firehouse Subs Grant is for one set of hydraulic tools at $35,000. This is a 100% grant and there is no match by the City.

Typically, Firehouse Subs makes the purchase of the equipment on behalf of the City.  Should they decide to submit a check to the City, the Fire Department will return to City Council to accept the revenues and fill out the appropriate Budget Adjustment Form.
