body
BACKGROUND:

The Dyal Water Treatment Plant (WTP) utilizes a trailered portable pump to dewater work areas that have untreated water, sludge byproducts from the ground or surface water plants. Dewatering is necessary to stabilize excavated areas to access piping when excavating or repairs are necessary. Currently, the Dyal WTP owns and operates one Thompson 4-inch pump, which limits back-up support capabilities and the ability to pump finished/potable water without the interruption of dewatering.

Staff is requesting to purchase an additional trailered Thompson 4-inch pump to pump clean finished/potable water for emergency operations and to provide a firm back-up pump for emergency response and resiliency, which will increase our overall dewatering and finished/potable operability.

Additionally, Staff's goal is to reduce the possibility of cross contamination between finished/potable water and sludge. Continued use of the existing pump will be on-going and will be used to pump untreated water or sludge byproduct, while the new pump will serve as a dedicated finished/potable water pump.

Staff requests the approval to participate in the Florida Sheriffs Association cooperative purchase agreement program in order to purchase the additional Thompson 4-inch pump.
