BACKGROUND:

 

Each year the Police Department applies to the Department of Justice for the Bulletproof Vest grant based on the Department’s needs and the award may be granted for a fifty (50) percent match for each vest purchased.  For the vest to qualify for the match, it must meet the National Institute of Justice guidelines. There are two years with which to expend the funds.

 

In FY2020, the Department applied for 29 vests at a cost of $1,171 each vest.  We budgeted for 12 replacements and 17 new hire/employee attrition vests. 

 

The Police Department budgeted $16,980 (the matching portion of the grant) in its FY2021 budget with the anticipation of being awarded this grant.  Council approved the Department applying for the grant under agenda item number 20-267. The attached Budget Adjustment 21-026-A amends the budgets to accept the Grant Revenue as well as moving the budgeted City 50% Grant Match to a new account and project number GR2107.
