BACKGROUND:
The Fire Department is currently in the process of looking to replace Reserve Engine 2 in next years budget. The reserve Engine currently has 19,230 hrs,103,520 miles, and the maintenance cost to date is $94,914.63. Reserve Engine 2 has become more difficult to find parts for because of its age and can no longer be relied upon as a backup apparatus in the event a front-line unit goes down. The Fire Department is looking to purchase a new engine and place it on the front line and put one of the Supten Engines as a reserve a unit. The Fire Department requested replacement of a fire engine in the FY21 budget, but the purchase had to be deferred due to limited resources. By leveraging an AFG grant for the purchase of a new truck, the Fire Department will be able to purchase a new engine and commit $26,475 in matching funds and additional $79,425 to meet the department’s equipment standards. The purchase of this new engine would allow for a more reliable fleet and reserve unit.

Should City Council approve the grant application and this grant be awarded, the Fire Department will return to City Council to accept the grant, and provide budget for the grant revenue and expenses. If the grant is awarded in FY21, contingency will be used to provide the $26,475 match and $79,425 in additional funds. If awarded in FY22, the match and additional amount will be provided through current revenue sources or fund balance.
