BACKGROUND:
The two aluminum domes covering the two sulfuraetors at the Wewahootee Plant have reached the end of their useful life due to corrosion/deterioration and are in critical need of replacement. The current condition of the aluminum domes leave the sulfuraetors vulnerable to weather-related damage especially as hurricane season approaches. Should weather-related damage occur, this will result in the shutdown of one or both sulfuraetors which will negatively impact the Wewahootee plant's operating capacity.
The aluminum domes were originally designed, manufactured, and installed by CST Industries, Inc. After researching several options for procurement, City staff have determined that CST Industries, Inc. is in the best position to ensure the proper fit and function and are able to provide the correct parts for future maintenance projects related to the domes. Pursuing a new design, manufacturer, and installer would be cost prohibitive for the City.
Staff recommends the approval of a sole source purchase with CST Industries, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $162,842.
