BACKGROUND:
The pool at Joe Lee Smith Community Center is 50+ years old and in need of some major repairs. Currently, the pool is closed and has been closed for 3 months due to lack of repairs. It will remain closed until necessary repairs are completed.
The county has requested that the city make these repairs due to budgetary issues. Public works is currently seeking out vendors to do the necessary repairs. Staff is estimating that the costs for the required repairs will be as much as $115,000. In order to expedite the procurement of necessary services, and in an effort to increase the likelihood of the pool repairs being completed in time for the summer, Staff is requesting that Council waive the Competitive Bidding requirements for this project.
