BACKGROUND:

The Fire Department is currently in the process of looking to replace Reserve Engine 2 in next years budget. The reserve Engine currently has 19,230 hrs,103,520 miles, and the maintenance cost to date is $94,914.63. Reserve Engine 2 has become more difficult to find parts for because of its age and can no longer be relied upon as a backup apparatus in the event a front-line unit goes down. The Fire Department is looking to purchase a new engine and place it on the front line and put one of the Supten Engines as a reserve a unit. The Fire Department requested replacement of a fire engine in the FY21 budget, but the purchase had to be deferred due to limited resources. By leveraging an AFG grant for the purchase of a new truck, the Fire Department will be able to purchase a new engine and commit $26,475 in matching funds and additional $79,425 to meet the department's equipment standards. The purchase of this new engine would allow for a more reliable fleet and reserve unit.
