Council acceptance of State of Florida Historic Preservation Small Matching Grant Award # 22.h.sm.300.024 in the amount of $50,000 ($25,000 grant/$25,000 match) for the purposes of designing educational displays related to the history of the Leon and Jewel Collins Museum of African American History and Culture. Approve a Resolution Amending the Fiscal Year 2021 Budget, BAF# 21-113-A in the amount of $25,000 for the grant award. Authorize the City Manager to sign the Grant Award Agreement.

BACKGROUND:
In May 2020, Staff presented an application for the State of Florida Small Matching Historic Preservation Grant Program for a project that will support cultural engagement and education. Staff requested a $25,000 grant with a $25,000 match, for a total of $50,000. The application request consisted of hiring a consultant to design and develop exhibit content for the Leon & Jewel Collins Museum of African American History and Culture. The request included developing audio/video segments to showcase in the museum as well as development of physical exhibits that outline the history of the Cocoa Junior High School and the City of Cocoa. Additionally, the development of educational material to share with students in Cocoa and Brevard County are planned for the design/development.
In September 2020, Staff presented before the State panel to request funding. Following that panel session, the recommended rankings were announced, with the City of Cocoa eligible for funding in the State's FY2022 budget. In July, the City was notified that the final approved State of Florida budget for FY2022 included funding for all of the recommended projects in the Small Matching Grant category, including the City of Cocoa.
